Learning from the Masters

One the guests present at the birthday bash of former Mayor Mathay was Mr. Sammie Lim. Well, I can honestly say that he still looks the same as the last time I saw him 20 years ago. How did he do that? Mr. Lim was my first boss in my first employment and I always perceived him as a genius in the corporate world. I’m proud to brag that I learned from him the standards of what an absolute business head is. It’s true that gaining knowledge from the guru and being trained by them is the most effective way of mastering the trade.

Happy Birthday, Mayor Mel Mathay!

Former QC Mayor Ismael Mathay celebrated his 76th birthday last June 26th with a party held in his residence in Green Meadows. Mr. Mathay was greeted by relatives and close friends who truly filled the place with overflowing joy and smiles.

The bash started with a concelebrated mass officiated by three priests and with the Emerald Male Chorale assisting. I conducted the choir that provided music for the liturgical service. Later we serenaded everybody with love songs.

I really admire Mayor Mathay, who at that evening was still up and was very active entertaining guests despite the fact that he just arrived from the US that morning. He never showed any single sign of weariness not even an indication of snooze or jet-lag. You know, if I were him, I might not have that much energy and may possibly just be taking my seat waving hand and giving nods to all the visitors.

Had the chance to have a short conversation with him and that was an incredibly special opportunity for me to thank this great person who had done much for the city that’s been my only home. Though I don’t want to end that piece of chat, I had to give-in coz he has to be with the other well-wishers. And if you’ll ask me, Mayor Mathay still has that charisma that made him very popular when he was still in office.

To Mayor Mel Mathay who made Quezon City the city of smiles, more power and may you have many more years of joy and happiness. God bless you.
